MARIAN COVER DOCKERY is the executive director of the State Bar of Georgia Diversity Program where she leads the program developing annual diversity CLE programs, business development symposiums and the High School Pipeline Program, a partnership with Atlanta’s John Marshall School of Law (JMSL), and the Leadership Institute for Women of Color Attorneys, Inc. (LIWOCA). Marian is managing member of Marian Dockery & Associates LLC which specializes in labor, employment discrimination and wage and hour cases.  Marian also serves as an arbitrator for FNRA.

 

Prior to her current positions, Marian was a trial attorney at the EEOC in-house-counsel at FEDEX in Memphis, TN where she was the first woman and first minority in the legal department; corporate EEO/AA Manager at BP Oil where she was the first African- American woman to work in an executive management position.

 

Marian speaks frequently on the topic of diversity and has presented at the 2012 ABA Mid-Year Meeting, the ABA Southern Regional Hearings for the ABA Presidential Summit, and the GDP CLE programs.  She has also presented on the topic of diversity at JMSL, Emory Law School, Spelman College and the Vanderbilt Alumnae Association.  Marian has written numerous articles on the topic of diversity for the Georgia Bar Journal, including “No Time for Diversity Fatigue,” “Fueling the Pipeline,” “Diversity Program’s Business Development Symposium,” and “2010 High School Pipeline Program.”  She has written numerous articles for the GDP quarterly newsletter published in The Daily Report.

 

Marian is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the Pennsylvania Bar Association.  Her professional activities include the American Bar Association, the National Bar Association, The Gate City Bar Association and the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys.  She has served on the Shepherd Center Foundation Board (2007-2013), the Pace Academy Board (1999-2006) and the Theatrical Outfit Board of Directors (2000-2002).

 

Marian earned her B.A. degree in political science and history from Mount Holyoke College and her J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law where she was an Earl Warren Fellow, a member of the Moot Court Board and Honor Council, and was named Outstanding Oralist, Appellate Argument I.  Marian is the recipient of the 2012 Gate City Bar Association Presidential Award for Excellence and the 2014 State Bar of Georgia Commitment to Equality Award.  Marian is the proud mother of Stephanie (BA Williams; Masters of Art Business – Sotheby’s Institute of Art, Singapore) who is associate director, corporate partnerships at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in NYC; and Todd, (BA, Northwestern) who is client lead, Amazon in Seattle, Washington.
